Timber Festival

Pause to wonder at the revelations of Feanedock and let artwork inspire you … What resonates?

Discover three installations at this year’s Timber Festival, created by four artists from the PLACE Collective working with the trees, soil and sense of resonance in each location.

Chance upon the installations, or join a group walk with us:

Saturday July 8, 1230-1330

Two women stand among birch trees on a sunny day

We four artists* came to the festival site in early June on a quest to find three special locations that inspired us. It was a warm and sunny day, and the place felt quite dreamy. We wandered around the site, stopping to pause and tune in to different trees, groves, and open areas … and settled on three locations.

We listened in to the trees and the wider landscape, and gathered ideas and materials. We discussed our own sensations, and some ideas, and then we went away to get making. We have chosen a uniform presentation method – so there’s some similarity between the pieces – but that’s where the similarity ends. Each of us has gone down our own creative paths.

The works will be revealed at the Festival: four pieces in each of the three locations, quietly resonating with one another, with the forest, and beyond. Chance upon these spaces, or visit with the artists during a guided walk: time for conversation about what connects us all, humans and other-than-humans, what matters, and how we as artists use our practices to engage with these issues.
